Lindsay Lohan wore ripped and laddered tights with a grey sweater dress and heels

|

Ripped jeans and leggings may be high fashion right now, but Lindsay Lohan seems to have taken it a trend too far. The actress wore ripped and laddered tights with a grey sweater dress and heels at a party for her 6126 leggings range. Although most celebrities would chose to wear the items they are endorsing at such a party, LiLo, 23, shunned her own leggings to wear the ripped tights.

Katie Green say no to size 'o'

|

Katie Green is a 21 year old model from Chichester, West Sussex. Katie was plucked from obscurity to become the new face of major brand Wonderbra in summer 2008. However, when Katie was introduced by the brand to Premier Model Management, who signed Katie, immense pressure was put on Katie to lose 2 stone despite being a UK size 12 and 5ft 11in tall. Katie started to lose the weight and in turn made herself quite ill, and in the end she decided to quit modelling altogether. Katie spoke out about it to a national newspaper and caused quite a stir. Then Katie received a call from Ultimo – asking if she would like to sign as the new face of their D-G range. Michelle said, ‘..by signing Katie, it proves that models don’t have to be a size zero to look fabulous or to have a successful modelling career.’ Because of this call Katie decided to go back to modelling.

Katie feels really strongly about the size zero debate and feels that she has a duty to fight for the curvier woman, as she herself has experienced how uncomfortable even healthy women and girls can be made to feel. She also thinks fashion designers and clothing brands target young impressionable teenage girls and make them feel uncomfortable about their weight and this can often lead to eating disorders. Because of this Katie has started an online petition, to try and put a stop to size zero models and models with an unhealthy BMI modelling on the catwalk, in major advertising campaigns and in fashion in general. Once she has reached her petition target of 20,000 signatures she will present this to the Prime Minister and Parliament with the help of Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik who is working with Katie on this, in the hope this change will be made. Their aim is to have a policy put in place ensuring all models are health checked before undertaking any modelling assignments with reputable and impressionable brands. Her stance is that if she could save one young woman from an eating disorder than she has succeeded

Since she began modeling Katie has also had the opportunity to become the face of Sony Bravia’s thinnest ever flat screen tvs with the slogan ‘..even TVs are feeling the pressure to be thin’ and to be a judge for Love It Magazine’s modelling competition ‘The Love It Lovelies’ (plus size girls). Katie has also had notable press in Marie Claire, The Sun, The Daily Express, The News of the World, Nuts, Zoo, Closer Magazine, Reveal Magazine, Love It Magazine, Company Magazine, The Daily Star and an 8 page fashion shoot in OK Magazine to name but a few.

Key Facts on Eating Disorders

- A healthy BMI reading for a woman should be between 18.5 and 25. Anything under 18.5 is deemed to be underweight and anything under 15 is deemed to be ‘starvation’

- Google provides 1,960,000 results for obesity, yet just 471,000 results for anorexia proving that more attention is thrown on obesity than those with severe eating disorders

- Cases of anorexia and bullimia among girls under 18 admitted for treatment have leapt by 47% in the last 3 years, and there has been a 25% increase in girls under nine being treated for eating disorders (Lib Dem figures, May 2009)

- Brazillian fashion model Ana Carolina Reston Marcan died due to complications of anorexia in 2006. She weighed 88lbs and had a BMI of just 13.4. Her death encouraged Madrid Fashion Week to ban models with BMIs under 18

- Approximately 55,540 women between 15 and 30 in the UK suffer from anorexia (Mind, 2006)

- Eating disorders are a serious mental illness affecting 1.1 million people in the UK (Beat, 2009)

- 30% of anorexia sufferers will continue to experience the illness long-term (Royal College of Psychiatrists)

- Although dress sizes in inches differ from brand to brand, each dress size has a difference of approximately two inches. This means to go from a size 12 down to a size 8 would mean losing a massive 4 inches from around your waist. And to be a ‘size zero’ (a UK size 4) you would have to lose double that – 8 inches

- In a recent poll of 3000 teenagers, 75% said they felt they needed to lose weight after looking at pictures of skinny stars such as Kate Moss and Nicole Richie (Lib Dem figures, May 2009)
